Mom's Review

"There was once a little girl..." starts this biography that feels more like a fairy tale in its telling. Mermaid of the Deep narrates the life of Dr. Sylvia Earle, who was the first person to walk on the deep-sea floor, now builds submarines, and continues to advocate for protection of aquatic life. While I have distilled her biography down to one sentence, her life (and the book) is so much richer than that. Stweart-Sharpe effectively whisks the reader away to Earle's side, while Le offers a glimpse underwater. Together, they introduce an interesting and inspiring life that leaves the reader thinking about ocean life, preservation, and exploration.
