Mom's Review

Moms who have ever been judged need to read this book. You will feel so seen.

Miri is struggling with a newborn when her mother-in-law arrives to "help" with loads of information about the deleterious effects of pretty much everything Miri is doing with her baby and her four-year-old Frances. It's no surprise, therefore, when she snaps at a woman on the street who comments about how hungry Baby must be or when she gives MIL Bella honest feedback about how taking Frances out for five hours without warning or communication is not acceptable. Hanaor and Higgins have created a very realistic, very relatable story that will resonate with mothers and elicit frustration on Miri's behalf among all readers. They acknowledge the struggle that new parents encounter, validate the challenges of intergenerational families, and do not sugarcoat either. While the book ends on a positive note, off-page intervention is implied before a detente between Miri and Bella. Shushu is raw truth, a mirror for mothers and window for others.
