Rene & Glumfoot in The Thieves beneath the Floorboards

Mom's Review
Oh, I love it! The world creation is delightful, the illustrations are incredibly rich, and the story itself takes some surprising twists. Rene and Glumfood work together in a cafe in the forest that serves a diverse clientele, from humans to ogres. When Rene believes she has a mouse infestation, she sets out to trap them - to the detriment of the cafe. BUT, she makes a world-altering discovery of a species that had been believed extinct. After some overreactions, she and they find a way to share space. No saccharine "Let's all be friends and share" kumbaya stuff happening here. More believably, Glumfoot intervenes, bringing a neutral perspective and helping both parties find a solution. Thieves beneath the Floorboards is part of a series, but can stand confidently on its own two feet, offering enjoyment and food for thought to young readers regardless of whether they've read its companions or not.
