The art is absolutely delightful - love Fryza's style!
There is so much for the reader to enjoy in The Mole and the Mound and the House Underground. We get to not only see Mole's hole, but everything else underground. And find the snail hidden on each page - so cute. The way that Mole completely ignores the nonsensical "best home" competition between the other animals, then doesn't hold it against them when they seek to reconcile with him prompts the reader to consider his feelings and self-confidence. His big, sad eyes when his initial invitation to the other animals is rejected evoke such sympathy on the part of the reader, and the others' admission of being wrong will appeal to the young audience's sense of justice. This engrossing picture book also has a perfect cadence for reading aloud, and several pages with ellipses draw out the suspense. Perfect for a lap read or a story time!
