My Festival Series
Published by Eternal Tree Books
My Ganesha Chaturthi: Words of Wisdom
My Holi: Colors of Cheer
Written by Priya Kumari and Komal Garg
Illustrated by Abhilasha Khatri and Urvashi Dubey
Mom's Review
These didactic picture books introduce the titular festivals by following young Leela and Aadi as they celebrate each festival with their families. Bright illustrations depict major practices while the children ask their older family members about the meaning behind the foods, prayers, and activities they encounter. A very young audience will come away with a foundation for understanding why Ganesha Chaturthi and Holi are celebrated and what those celebrations look like. I see these books being perfect for preschool use!
My Vesak: Day of Buddha
Written by Priya Kumari
Illustrated by Urvashi Dubey
Mom's Review
In this informational picture book, readers learn that Vesak celebrates the life and teachings of the Buddha and how Vesak is observed around the world. Written for a very young audience, the explanatory text highlights the major practices of different communities, explaining in accessible language the purpose of different practices. This is a great introduction to the holiday for children of all backgrounds - I particularly like how readers are invited to make their own Vesak paper lanterns with step-by-step instructions.
