Mom's Review

Not a new book, but definitely a timeless one. Julian is a Mermaid is about a creative and imaginative kid who gets into a bit of trouble - but not really - when he appropriates his grandmother's curtains for a costume. I love Julian is a Mermaid - have done so since I first read it to Son when he was little. Here we have a kid who has a great relationship with his grandmother, a vivid imagination, and a creative drive. Why do I point out the grandmother first? Because we see that even though she looks absolutely exhausted and she admonished Julian to be good, her measured response to his elaborate mermaid costume is one of encouragement.

Julian allows his imagination to soar, and the minimal text encourages our imaginations to take flight as well. In a world where children are often captivated by screens, a child daydreaming and then bringing his dream to life is precious indeed. Not only are we granted the space to daydream as we read about Julian, he inspires us readers to take the time to reflect, imagine, and create.

Julian is a Mermaid is a celebration of imagination and an exceptional read for all youngsters!
