I Am A Lotus
Written by Anu Sehgal
Illustrated by Diah Chakraborty
Published by Eternal Tree Books
Mom's Review
Using the lotus as a model, this book encourages mindfulness, compassion, and self-care in children. Each page begins with the line, "I am a lotus..." then conveys how this iconic flower can remind us to follow our goals, share our resources, and embrace our differences. Back matter offers further information on the lotus pose and meditation, as well as Sehgal's lifelong relationship with the flower.
I am a Lotus encourages young children to both consider their relationship with the wider world and reflect on their personal challenges and successes. I particularly like how each illustration shows children in relatable situations and how one of the final pages encourages readers to end the day in gratitude, which we've been doing in our family for years. Perfect for the youngest audience as they begin to understand their connection with the world.
