Claude Book Review

OMG the quote on the back holds the same sentiment that I always tried to get my students - and now try to get my son- to understand! "Don't wait to be perfect to start." Seriously, you're going to make mistakes and fail as you learn and try things. That's part of the process. No one starts out perfect at something! Just seeing that quote on the back made me feel like we were going to be off to a great start. So let's go!

Mom's Review

This wordless picture book is powerful in its illustrations. We see a child trying to recreate Claude Monet's Poppy Field while a playful pup is begging for attention. The wordlessness and minimalist illustrations leave room for the reader to imagine what child and pup are each thinking, to delve deep into the characters they see and consider their interactions. As the pup becomes increasingly active and the child continues to try to paint, readers can easily anticipate what happens: the pup knocks over the easel and all the paints. In the aftermath, space is created for the child and the reader both to reflect on what just happened. Claude, while short, offers infinite possibilities for contemplation and creative storytelling.

Don't skip the back matter.
