I love Lambelet's art! I adored The Poisoned Apple, and Beatrix and her Friends lived up to my high expectations. As you might expect from the title, this picture book biography focuses primarily on the animals in Potter's life who inspired her most famous characters, like her pet rabbit Peter. Readers learn how she drew from real life and personal observations to create enchanting characters with realistic attributes; we see Jemima Puddle Duck, Squirrel Nutkin, and Jeremy Fisher and learn about her relationship with each animal. The way Lambelet has depicted all Potter's animal friends accompanying her across the pages is absolutely delightful, bridging her creative life, her personal life, and our prior acquaintances. I expect fans of Beatrix Potter's children's stories to enjoy this title mightily - I certainly did! I only wish that her scientific work had been included.
