The Story of Everything: The Story of You!

Mom's Review
I really like Cosgrove's style. The whole book is set up so that you have to flip the pages vertically, not horizontally, and that makes the images feel somehow more consuming of space. A story that conveys the history of everything should take up space, and the layout of this book certainly does. As the dad on the cover tells his little girl about the history of the planet, from the beginning through dinosaurs through early man to her, readers see the duo's thoughts come alive in the background, dwarfing the people. Condensed as the millennia are, it makes the connection between us today and the early bacteria feel more real and solid. Readers can appreciate the awe-inspiring evolution of life on this planet in the beautiful progression of images and the events the father relates to his daughter. The Story of Everything is perfect for the youngest audience who is just starting to understand themselves in relation to the external world.
