Mom's Review
I absolutely adore Adele and was totally captivated by Tardi's tales and art! Paris's Belle Epoque, Adele's logical and stoic attitude, and Tardi's speculative fiction make for stories that sucked me in, delighted me, and kept me wanting more. And reading this right before a visit in Paris added to my enjoyment! I read this whole volume in two sittings - I just couldn't put it down. And when I closed the book, I felt like I was emerging from another world!
Adele is a writer who winds up investigating seemingly supernatural occurrences in Paris, imperiling her life and uncovering conspiracies at the highest level of law enforcement. The excitement builds as she seeks out a pterodactyl, follows a demon, and investigates reanimated mummies, and things never quite turn out how you expect. It's always better. I really hope to see more of Adele in the future! And since Tardi originally published in the 70's, I already know that I can seek out more of his work.
Son's Review
I loved this!!!!!! It was right up my alley. I love demons, monsters, and all that is strange and supernatural, and this book was no exception! I recommend it to fans of Sherlock Holmes, Ghost Busters, Tales from the Crypt, and The Exorcist. Also what a surprise that Adele d - censored due to spoilers - at the end! I also thought it was cool when they revived a caveman! I hope to get more books from Fantagraphics given they publish some of my favorite books!
