Mom's Review

The book starts with a "How to Use this Book" section, which will be really helpful to the kids reading. The format is a bit overwhelming if you don't realize what you are looking at ahead of time, and really cool once you do. Each two-page spread is a fabricated newspaper spread from different time periods in the history of the geographical area spanning the contiguous 48. Beginning with prehistory, readers see articles about land bridges, new tech of adzes, and giant sloths. At the bottom of each page, kids will see a timeline helping them place events and artifacts in relation to each other. And there are QR codes to scan throughout, which take you to audio (I haven't listened though). Rich in text and images, America as it Happened is a fun and engaging book to flip through to learn about the distant and near past.
