When You Feel

Mom’s Review
When You Feel is an excellent introduction to managing emotions for the youngest audience. This board book featuring characters with and without visible and implied invisible disabilities models how to process strong emotions like excitement, anger, and giddiness in healthy ways. The authors created catchy jingles to help children remember coping mechanisms like stepping away from a frustrating situation to regain one's calm or turning to a loved one for comfort when one is afraid. When You Feel sets young children up for a healthy response to their own emotions. I also really like the art style and the representation of different disabilities and - based on the children's names - cultural backgrounds. When You Feel is a cute and effective way to lay the foundation for self-reflection.
