Mom's Review
We Need to Talk About Divorce is a comprehensive, age-appropriate resources for elementary grade kids. Written in a conversational tone directly addressing the reader, psychotherapist Scharff explains the logistical and emotional aspects of experiencing parents' divorce. With examples of what might happen, common concerns, and comments friends might make, Scharff offers readers explanations of why children might subconsciously pick fights with their parents and ways to respond to well-meaning (but stupid) comments. Scharff progresses from outlining how parents tell children of an impending divorce and why some parents might struggle to converse to navigating plans with friends when one might not be sure which home one will be at. The tone is reassuring and direct, not patronizing, which is always something I try to look at when reviewing nonfiction/self-help books. I think this would be a good tool for sure!
