Mom's Review

I absolutely love the author's tone as he speaks to the reader. The directness, the humor, and the facts that he chooses to include - spectacular! Add to that Hooper’s paintings and collages, and you have the makings for a wonderfully engaging book about Charles Darwin for young readers. Day explains how Darwin came to the idea of natural selection, and that this discovery was ultimately made through walking and letting one's mind wander - something that the readers can do themselves.

Following the direct-address portion of the picture book is explanatory text in a smaller font, detailing the importance of walking for Darwin. This back matter makes a story itself and is perfect for lap reading or for story time.

I unreservedly recommend How to Have a Thought for its content, its tone, and its art. It is the complete package.
