April's Journey
is a hope-filled children's postwar journey. April and Julio, with nothing more than their stuffed animals and the backpacks they were wearing when the bombs fell, seek safety through tumultuous situations and find it only far from home with a welcoming and loving stranger. While the two children do find security, the story calls to mind all the children today who can find no safety, who are being irreparably harmed. With a call for peace, April's Journey reminds the adults who are reading this picture book to their little ones that it is we who must do all we can to protect the little ones of the world, whether they be next door or across the globe. This picture book is an excellent tool for discussing the wars waged today and the realities facing children because of those wars. Its focus on hope and friendship allows the youngest audience to confront the concept of loss and destruction in an age-appropriate way.

April's Journey is a beautiful and moving book.
