Mom's Review
Shell Seeker is more than just the story of a blind biologist and how he undertook his inquires. It is the uncovering of truth about mollusks' development in different environments . Readers follow young Geerat as his childhood interest in shells grows and expands, and how his blindness impacts his studies. Alongside biographical information is scientific data - readers learn more about shells and the creatures who inhabit them as Geerat does. The art, narrative, and informational text combine to make a compelling story that expands one's understanding of the natural world as one imbibes a story. I love it! The person is fascinating and the subject is easily relatable to kids, and the informative text is written at an accessible (not patronizing) level. This is a great blend of science and liteature.
The back matter is spectacular! With experiments many kids can do with household items and a glossary of terms, the accessibility of information is high.
