Son's Review

Shiver as You Read is a collection of vintage short scary stories that were published in comic magazines a long time ago. One of the stories in the book is about a girl that is actually a "clanker" and another story is about a living vine. Now the stories in the book are not all that frightening but they are still very entertaining. I would recommend this book to people that like EC comics.

Mom's Review

I like Son's interest in vintage comics for two primary reasons. First, he is reading dialogue from a different era; he gets to experience different language use and turns of phrase. Second - and this is piggybacking off the first - he is seeing a perspective from a different time period. Not only how did people speak, but what did they find creepy? How did they dress? Or even what themes are timeless? How does entertainment compare? I think reading literature of all types from different perspectives is broadening. And honestly, this is just a really cool & visually appealing anthology (you don't have to turn it into a literary history lesson!). Hours of entertainment!
