Titles have the means to alienate those without them when their use is insisted upon by those with. When people care more about labels and distinctions than a person's soul, you know there is something wrong with that person. And that is where Ticky's character shines through. The "very fine clock" is a fine timekeeper to be sure, but he is a finer friend when he declines ostentation in favor of camaraderie. Friendship and character are what counts, not labels.
