Mom's Review
Moving away from the home you've always known to an uncertain future in a different country is hard for Coqui when her family flees Cuba in the 1960's. The Peanut Man, whose reliable evening peddling embodies home is acutely missed for years before Coqui encounters an American peanut man at a baseball game and finally feels like there is a piece of her new home that feels right. This beautiful story based on the author's childhood experiences conveys how essential a tiny piece of home can be when we feel adrift in a strange sea. It also illuminates the experience of a Cuban refugee family who is part of the rich fabric of this nation of immigrants.
