Mom's Review
I started reading the Irish Village series with Book 4, so going back to the beginning was a particular delight!. And while I maintain that this series does not need to be read in order to appreciate each mystery, the interpersonal relationships are more satisfying to watch blossom in order. I loved seeing how Siobhan got her start investigating murders - the first book is an excellent origin story and mystery all in one. I think I might actually appreciate it more going from Book 11 back to 1 and seeing how everyone has grown. Readers get a great feel for Kilbane and the townsfolk. I enjoyed being introduced to the regulars and felt like they were really well established. The murder mystery (the body was found in Naomi's Bistro!) was exquisitely crafted, and while I had no idea who did it and was wrong with every guess, I cannot imagine any other resolution than that which was ultimately revealed. Without spoiling anything, I can say that everything fell right into place!
In Murder at an Irish Wedding, we first get to see Siobhan and Dara as an established couple, and we get to witness Siobhan's first encounter with Dara's mother! So that's some drama to spice things up. As if a dead man clutching Macdara's garda cap isn't enough drama already. A range of suspicious characters involved in the titular wedding makes for a fun and challenging mystery to solve, and I NEVER even guessed the right murderer. O'Connor is an absolute master at pairing fantastic mysteries with rich characters and compelling interpersonal relationships to create captivating cozies!
