Mom's Review

Music of the Mountains
has bright, beautiful illustrations that capture the attention and an endearing main character, little Roohi, who will capture the heart as she tries to learn the rabab (a string instrument) for an Eid performance. Roohi is eminently relatable in her insecurity, and her Mama's and Neeka Baba's encouragement reassuring to witness. Shah uses Pashto words in the story so seamlessly that non speakers can easily infer their meaning, though a glossary is in the back. Music of the Mountains offers a fresh voice to the public-performance-fear genre, and one that will have children cheering on Roohi by the end. Music of the Mountains is a winner in my book!
