The Monster in the Lake is so much fun! For starters, the reader sees just how wrong the ducks are; knowing the secret makes the reader feel a conspiratorial connection with mallard Eric. Second, the monster defies all expectations in the most charming way; who would not want that monster in their lake? And finally, the illustrations themselves are endearing - such playfully rendered creatures cannot fail to delight. Like I said, The Monster in the Lake is FUN!
