Rise and Fall is a must-read for any kid with even a modicum of interest in history. Detailed graphics teach about "Great Empires that Shaped the World," just as advertised, from the Minoan civilization to the Kamakura Shogunate and the Mali Empire to the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. All of the information is imbedded in the detail-rich illustrations that reveal just as much about each empire as the text does. The basics you'd expect, like major cultural elements, the foundation for wealth, and reasons for expansion and demise are included as well as all kinds of information you didn't know you needed, but absolutely do! Rise and Fall is itself epic!
