Ellis Island Passover
, based on the creator's family history, tells the story of young Ezra, who is stuck on Ellis Island while authorities search for his older brother who was supposed to sponsor his immigration. Without his own family, a Haggadah, or the proper food for a Sedar meal, Ezra connects with the other Jewish immigrants to celebrate with what they do have. Ezra's experience is situated within the frame narrative of his grandniece getting in trouble on the first Passover when he has travelled to celebrate with her. In sharing the story of his first Passover in America, Great-Uncle Ezra situates his time with his grandniece in the history of holy day. Ellis Island Passover is a story of community and faith, set against a backdrop of a religious celebration.
