Mom's Review

You can read The Water Flower with older and younger children. For younger kids, read the non-fiction narrative, following the flowing prose in larger print as the narrator explains the life cycle of the lotus plant. Rich illustrations depict every stage and include minute detail, even a bee that slept in a blossom overnight! This leads me to the second way to read this book - focusing on the labels of the drawings. More specific botanical information is detailed in smaller print in the illustrations. Kids seeking a greater level of detail will appreciate the comprehensive look at the lotus. The Water Flower is an excellent spring read for children of all ages.
