Mom's Review

I had to hold back tears when I closed this book.
The Ordinary Life of Jacominus Gainsborough
is a stirring tale of one person's (rabbit's) life. Starting with Jacominus's birth, the narrator directly addresses the reader, telling her about his early life , his dreams, his troubles, his loves. and finally his death. Dautremer's rich illustrations foster a deeper connection between reader and rabbit - you have a vivid image accompanied by eloquent text sharing Jacominus's experience. I felt what he felt. I sympathized. I remembered similar experiences in my life. The author's message at the start of the book really set me up for introspection, especially considering my definition of an ordinary/extraordinary life. The Ordinary Life of Jacominus Gainsborough is beautiful in every way; it will stick with you long after that final page turn. It is a treasure.
