Mom's Review
Papa's Butter Chicken is a sweet story about the pleasure of cooking with someone you love. Perfect for Thanksgiving, Saigal and Tariq foreground the happiness Monica feels connecting with her father over cooking and anticipating a father-daughter dinner. When word gets out to the extended family that Monica's papa is cooking his signature dish, everyone descends upon Monica and her father for an impromptu banquet with the food everyone contributes. As delightful as that may sound, Monica is sorely disappointed. Her father helps her manage her disappointment and makes sure to take a moment apart from everyone else to share an exclusive father-daughter blessing. They ultimately have a lovely evening with the extended family.
Papa's Butter Chicken is a warm story about family, cooking, and handling disappointment.
I also like that that cook in the family is the dad. That reflects our own family dynamics (I am not a good cook, while T's dad has a talent for it), and even though T isn't the one reading this, I'm sure other little boys who help their dads in the kitchen will like to see the child helping her dad.
