Mom's Review

Two strands of text - one story and one song - flow complementarily through I'll See You in Ijebu. You can read one or both and enjoy the familial love and the joy of a holiday celebration. I love the vibrant illustrations and the natural feel of the family's holiday preparations. Pictures and words just all go together so perfectly!

The premise of I'll See You in Ijebu is the Catholic branch of a family eager to get to Ijebu for the Eid celebrations with the Muslim branch of the family. As a Catholic, I love seeing people of my faith represented going about their daily lives. The story focuses on the journey to family - the religions are incidental; It is the travel and the treasured time together that are focal. Beautiful, relatable, and accessible on many levels!

Back matter includes more information on Nigeria plus an author's and an illustrator's note.
