Mom's Review

I love how The Lunar New Year Surprise is about a big brother learning a new skill and making something special for his sister, set against the backdrop of the lunar new year. The reader learns about the holiday during the course of the story, as well as through back matter.

The little boy learned to crochet and secretly made a lion stuffed animal for his sister, who loves the lion dance but hates the noise. He is disappointed when his attempts to give his sister the lion are thwarted by their busy day, but he accepts the unexpected, knowing he will have another opportunity. The boy and girl both have a wonderful day that is crowned by the gift. The sheer joy of familial love shines through in this festive book. I unreservedly recommend it.
