Son's Report/Review

Genre: Fiction
Characters: Lilly, Leah, Monkey
Setting: Lilly and Leah's room, daytime, now

Problem: The problem is Lilly decides to leave the room that they share because Leah is such a mess. And Leah tries to find a new "zoo-mate."

Solution/Ending: Lilly comes back when she sees her new "Zoo-mate Wanted" poster.

Why do you think Lilly changed her mind? Since the new flyer had "yes, cleaning" on it and she likes to keep her things tidy.

T drew an important part:
Why is it important? It's what creates the whole story.

What is the whole story? The story is about animals coming to her room and saying "no" to them for different reasons.

Are the animals real? No, they are not. They're actually toys, since you can see that on the cover you can see all the animals that are in the book are toys.

Would you want to room with either girl?
I'd want to room with Leah since she also hates cleaning and I think we'd get a long pretty well since we both hate cleaning and we both usually leave our rooms a mess.

Reaction:
Well, for one thing, I like how Lilly is dressed since it looks like a cheetah and cheetahs are my favorite animal. They are one of mine, but cheetahs are definitely the top one. It includes capybaras and pandas and jaguars and steakies [tapirs - T messed up the name once and it stuck] and sand cats. It was a really good book.

What should people know? Well, what's important for people to know about this is if they like animals, they should totally read it.

Mom's Review
Reminiscent of Oscar and Felix, Leah and Lilly have to work out their different expectations around tidiness. After some mishaps with wild "zoo-mates," Leah's love for her sister Lilly overcomes her desire to have her way, and they two girls respectfully make concessions. What stands out to me is how Leah processes her feelings through her stuffed animal, Monkey, and tackles problems with imagination. Zoo-Mate Wanted it a cute story that provides young readers with an example of working through frustrations.
