Review
Hey, ho, nobody's home-la-la-la-laa... T has been singing this since Lola's music class struggled through their various inaccurate versions of the song at the start of the book (and I've been humming it to myself around the house as well).

Our most recent Chips and Chapters selection, Everybody's Home, is an ideal balance of high-interest material, humor, plot and character development, illustrations, text complexity, and chapter length. It is such a great fit for T right now! He reads an entire chapter aloud before taking a break to rest his voice (and eat some chips). Mostly, we had rather long sittings where we each read two chapters - Everybody's Home was that hard to put down! Quick synopsis: in this fourth novel, Lola is less than thrilled with her music teacher's selection for the upcoming concert. In true Lola Jones form, she takes it upon herself to effect a change in the song lineup. Neither T nor I was quite sure how Lola's endeavors would turn out, and I won't spoil it for you, but I will say that Eig kept us on our toes.

Everybody's Home lived up to and even exceeded our expectations. T was quite interested in Lola's campaign to influence the song selection for her class's concert, but what really had an observable impact on him was Lola's enjoyment of chart making. T started making his own charts to record information that matters to him. In fact, I'm capitalizing on this interest and incorporating it into our home school curriculum for these two months. He's making bar graphs of LEGO brick colors, charts of what signs of spring he sees in a park, and so on. I wouldn't have thought to introduce these math skills without Lola!

T and I have liked everything about the Lola Jones series, and Everybody's Home was no exception. I highly recommend it!
