Review
I don't often give much attention to new Christmas books, but Miss Eve on the cover caught my eye when a review opportunity came across my desk. And I'm glad I took it – the illustrations are enchanting, the story is sweet, and readers are encouraged to share in the Christmas spirit. (In fact, the Christmas Spirit may be the cutest character in the book.) With an emphasis on care for others, following one's conscience, and embracing creativity, Merry Christmas, Eve! warms the heart while the adorable animals and settings ensconce the reader in coziness. I don't know what kittens are doing at the North Pole, but it totally works and I want to imagine kittens there from now on. Merry Christmas, Eve! is darling in word and picture.

A synopsis: With increasing Christmas requests, Santa enlists the help of one elf to oversee toy production. This Head Elf, depicted with classic villain mustachios, becomes drunk on power and saps the joy out of giving, standardizing toy production to increase productivity. As the elves are led away from personalized and altruistic giving and toward more commercial enterprises for the Head Elf's own satisfaction, Miss Eve follows her conscience in spite of her boss's directives. She seeks out and frees the imprisoned Christmas Spirit, reviving the elves' flagging spirits and returning altruism to their focal point. Santa also shows up in the end and sastifyingly puts the Head Elf on the naughty list.
