Synopsis: A boy and his dog miss and recall another dog that used to be part of their family.

I recommend Remembering Barkley if you're seeking a tool to help your child process a pet's death, particularly for the first time.

Upon our first reading, T did not understand that Barkley had died because that is never explicitly stated. We are very direct and factual in our conversations about death, so I think the allusions in this book eluded T at first. Now that we've also had a pet die, he isn't keen to read this because it is "too sad."

I do think Remembering Barkley can be a helpful resource, reflecting a child's feelings and validating their grief over a pet.
