Review

Viking werewolf mystery romance.

It's not as niche as it might sound. First and foremost, this is a crime mystery set in a small rural town. Yes, the crimes are werewolf attacks. And yes, there is a love story. And yes, Vikings are involved. But Bared & Betrayed can hold its own with any mystery or romance, paranormal or otherwise.

Bared & Betrayed focuses on the big-city detective brought in to investigate the packs and her local partner as they work to prevent future werewolf attacks on humans while also maintains the town's secrets. The mystery is complex and brilliantly developed. The characters are no less so; McCorkle develops their relationship from antagonistic to neutral to romantic at a fair pace, revealing layers of each's personality and backstory. The greatest strength, however, is the incorporation of Norse mythology. Viking immigrants who
brought their ancient religion with them provide a plausible explanation for Fenrir's children to be living in contemporary Montana. My only criticism is of the detective's attraction to her partner's "package" – it reads a bit contrived.

Overall, Bared & Betrayed keeps your adrenaline pumping and you turning the pages until that book hangover hits.
