Mom's Review

Named after a Mexican candy that comes in stuck-together squares, this family of rabbits(?) is always together, in body and thought. They are literally stuck to one another until little Julia wishes to look at something different from her family members at a museum. This causes a physically irreparable fracture, but we are reassured that she is never alone. This beautifully illustrated picture book is thought provoking at both surface and allegorical level. Readers will consider what it means to be alone, what separation from one's family of origin really means, and what the difference is between independence and loneliness. Simple and profound, The Mueganos is one story that will stay with you long after you close the book.
