Mom's Review

Full pages rich in color envelop the reader in the lushness of the garden. And the riot of colors and flowers and berries and patterns continues throughout the story about Betty and her grandmother's cottage canning operation. A sweet garden mystery ensues when Betty discovers ruts in the lawn and destruction in the garden; she surveils the landscape during the night and discovers a badger. A little ingenuity on Betty's part deters the badger and all is well in the end. This minor adventure overlays an everyday story of one girl's relationship with her grandmother. The love and integral part each plays in the other's life is palpable.

Illustrations and story welcome the reader into the warm embrace of family. Absolutely delightful!

And it includes a badger - how neat is that!
