Mom's Review

Bridges is a spectacular graphic. Part history, part engineering exposition, and part interactive game., this intricately illustrated nonfiction children's book has something to offer every child. You can flip back and forth to follow mazes, see types of bridges, learn about historic collapses, or explore the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. What I particularly appreciate is the level of detail in each drawing - the longer you look, the more treasures you uncover. It is also worth commenting on the varied meanings of "bridge" that are addressed - Gargulakova and Bachorik do not limit themselves to construction but also treat dental, musical, metaphorical and other meanings of the word. Bridges is something to return to again and again.
