Life After Whale
is a fascinating look at what happens to a whale's body after it dies. Readers learn how different life forms are supported at each stage of decay through a combination of narrative nonfiction, artistic renderings, and informational text. This is a beautiful and informative tribute to the circle of life. I particularly like how Brunelle and Chin convey the truths of biology and ecology in a way that engenders a respect for life, even when that life is named "hagfish" or is worm larvae. The whole process is awe-inspiring and will fascinate budding oceanographers.
