A major book hangover plagued me for days after finishing The Resurrectionist. This bildungsroman featuring a young medical student, James, in Edinburgh in the 1920's fascinates and captivates. I felt as though I was right by James's side the whole book long, so tangible was Dunlap's description of everything and so realistically were both James and Nye portrayed. James's personal growth, his figuring out what he wanted in life and who he was, felt natural. And the pulling in of two notorious murderers added to the suspension of disbelief - I really felt like was watching real life unfold. And I couldn't look away. I really liked James and Nye and missed them, individually and as a couple, when I finished the book. I would love to read another book featuring them, but I kind of think The Resurrectionist is a standalone.
