Mom's Review
Ramadan on Rahma Road seamlessly integrates recipes from around the world into the narrative of a diverse community preparing for a shared iftar during the holy month of Ramadan. Regardless of whether the neighbors are Muslim or not, all celebrate together. Each family has its own micro subplot, like the teen who has to video chat with her grandmother in Turkey to get a recipe, the little girl who is crying because she forgot she was fasting and had a snack, or the grandmother who has to be persuaded to not go overboard with the portions she's preparing. The joy, reverence, and sense of the community's reverence for faith is palpable throughout the book. There is so much to appreciate in Ramadan on Rahma Road. My advice, though, is don't read this while actively fasting. All the recipes are so mouthwatering that they will exacerbate the hunger.
