Mom's Review

The rhythm of Major Taylor: World Cycling Champion will get your heart pumping like you are in a cycling race yourself. And like switching gears, Smith alternates between past and present. Readers ride alongside Major on a six-day competition at Madison Square Garden; after each day, readers get a glimpse of a previous momentous race in Major's life and see how he got his start doing bike tricks, then faced racism on the track, and finally prompted European bike race rules to change race day from Sunday to accommodate Major's devote observance of the Lord's Day (this last bit is explained in the back matter). Major Taylor is great for any age! And I'm thrilled to feature a second famous Worcesterite! You read that right - Major moved to the Woo to race in unsegregated competitions!
