Mom's Review
Fans of Don't Wake the Dragon will be delighted to visit adorable and somewhat grumpy Dragon again. Similar to its precursor, Who Loves the Dragon? engages young readers intellectually, emotionally, and physically.

In this time of social distancing, when children cannot play with friends, Who Loves the Dragon? models empathetic behavior. Readers are introduced to Dragon's problem: her friends have all left her alone in the castle. The narrator reflects on what helps her (could be him, but I hear a woman's voice narrating) feel better. She suggests that we do those things with Dragon, giving specific examples of cheering words readers could use. By engaging readers actively and eliciting empathetic behavior, a young audience has the opportunity to practice emotional problem solving while also being entertained by a dragon story (and we are partial to dragons in this house). Superficially, the reds, whites, and pinks in the illustrations put one in a mindset of Valentine's Day, which is right around the corner. Accidental? I think not. Schulze and Hardy offer a well-timed message. Oh, and readers need not fear that Dragon remains alone. In the end, the friends all return and reassure Dragon of their love.

We read a digital version of Who Loves the Dragon, and our Don't Wake the Dragon is with a friend right now, so T is eager to get both these books in his hands at the same time! You can't really do all the activities on a screen, though we did what we could. Even so, his favorite part was the activities. For a kid who is moving into chapter books, Who Loves the Dragon? was still fun and a picture book I know he'll want to read and re-read. He's five, after all, and shaking the book to make confetti fly is undeniable fun (Note: It doesn't fly out of the book. You shake a page, and on the next page confetti is covering everything in the castle.)

Son's Review
(Age: one month shy of 6 years)

I love it. I like all the activities. I liked the page where they have a cake and a loving dragon. And there's a drawing of Dragon and a dragon balloon.

Some guys get too close, and Dragon breathes smoke out her nose. And Dragon's not feeling too happy, and then they hold a party. That's mainly it.
