Mom's Review
As far as election books go, A Vote is a Powerful Thing is one of the most accessible ones I've seen.

A little girl, Callie, learns a bit about voting in school. After learning about elections, Callie's class will vote on the destination for their next field trip. Meanwhile, her grandmother is lobbying for funds to be allocated to the wilderness park in the upcoming election. When the choices for the field trip are revealed to be the wilderness park or a cookie factory, Callie decides to campaign for the wilderness park.

By combining factual information, a local election, and a classroom election, Stier invites readers to see how voting can have an impact at different levels. Voting is not some abstract thing for adults to put a president or an unfamiliar congress member in office far away. Children learn that voting at the local level can impact their lives, and that voting can be about issues, not just people who will manage the country. Stier and Dawson do an excellent job bringing this timely topic down to a young child's level.

T's questions:
What does "inspiring" mean?
Why does it [the wilderness proposition] have a number?

I learned things that I already knew, like votes are powerful things. They can change the whole government and maybe even the president.
