Why we chose this book:
T is wild about PAW Patrol, and we are always excited about German books that appeal to him, so when a representative from Phoenix International provided a review copy of this book along with Moana, we were all thrilled.

Mom's Review
On Saturday, T went to a PAW Patrol-themed birthday party. Can you guess what's been a source of excitement all week? How fitting a PAW Patrol book is right now! We don't usually see sound-books at the library, so this one was a new experience for T, and he loved it! Following along as I read, T was excited to press the buttons to make each pup bark and Ryder's pup pad ring. On each page, the pups have a different water rescue to effect, and the reader can include several sounds for each of these.

This PAW Patrol book is available in English, but we read the German edition. The combination of beloved characters and exciting sound buttons kept T engaged and prompted his use of German in a way that I haven't seen before. When we were speaking in English afterward, he responded to the yes/no questions in German of his own accord. Usually, he's responsive to German, but won't speak it unprompted, so this is a notable difference even though it was only yes/no questions. I'm attributing his heightened engagement with the language on the engaging format and his love of PAW Patrol.

Soooo many repeats of Ready, Set, Rescue! mean T is having loads of fun, we both are practicing our German, and now now I'm singing  "PAW Patrol. PAW Patrol. Be there in a hurry..." Are you?

Son's Review
very focused on making a PAW Patrol
setup with book, guys, truck, bookmark,
and his Chase ears hat

(Age: 4)
Mom: What was the best part? Why?

Son: Pfot-O-Fon* because I like how its sounds go. My favorite part was all the parts with the Pfot-O-Fon because it dings because it wants Ryder to know, but Ryder needs something to clarify [for] him [that] the pups need to rescue someone or something.
*Pfot-O-Fon is German for Pup Pad

Mom: Did you have a favorite rescue? A favorite Rettung?

Son: The Katie rescue!

Mom: Would you want to learn any of the skills that the dogs have? Humans learn them-

Son, interrupting: and flying in that kind of plane! What kind of plane is that?

Mom: helicopter

Son: Yeah, well, [I'd] fly a helicopter.

Mom: If you could give any animal powers, like the dogs in this book have powers, what animal would you choose? What power would you give it?

Son: I would give powers to dogs and I would have them fly with eagle wings. AdI would name the one who flies with eagle wings Eagle.

Mom: Wow. I would want whales to speak human languages so we could learn from them.

Mom: What's the most important thing to know about the book?

Son: The most important thing to know is that I like it!

Mom: What did you think about pressing the buttons?

Son: FUN ACTION!!!

Mom: Was it hard to keep track of what to press?

Son: Yes. I was sometimes forgetting.

Mom: When's the best time to read Auf die Plätze, fertig, Rettung!?

Son: Whenever I like PAW Patrol, to be honest!

Mom: Is there anyone for whom you would recommend this book?

Son: I would recommend it to cousin G!
